The church fell into a suffocating silence. Thomas Vance stopped dead in his tracks, his eyes narrowing as they locked onto Caleb. The smug authority on his face instantly morphed into pure, unadulterated rage. He took a few steps closer to the altar, ignoring the gasps from the guests.
"You?"
Thomas sneered, his voice dripping with venom.
"The mediocre analyst I was planning to fire next Monday? You are the man my daughter is marrying?"
Chloe’s face went pale. She looked between her father and her groom, her hands trembling so violently that a few white rose petals fluttered to the stone floor.
"Caleb, you know him?"
she whispered, her voice breaking.
"He is my boss, Chloe,"
Caleb replied, his heart hammering against his ribs.

Thomas stepped up to the altar, completely ignoring the priest. He looked at Caleb with utter disdain.
"This farce ends right now,"
Thomas declared.
"Chloe, you are making the biggest mistake of your life marrying this nobody. And as for you, Caleb—if you don't walk out of this church right now, I will personally ensure you are blackballed from every financial firm in this country. You will never work in this industry again."

To be blackballed by a giant like Thomas Vance meant financial ruin. He looked at Chloe, whose eyes were pleading, filled with a devastating mixture of fear and heartbreak.
