Previously: When a snobbish boutique owner humiliates a disheveled woman looking at a wedding gown, she has no idea the stranger holds a secret that will destroy her career.

The Secret in the Lace

Victoria scoffed, trying to maintain her composure. "This is absurd, Mr. Vance! I have the design patents registered under my name. This woman is clearly suffering from a mental breakdown." She gestured to the guards to take Clara away, but Arthur raised a hand, silencing her. He looked at Clara, remembering her brilliant talent. "Clara, how can we prove this?" he asked gently.

Clara wiped her tears and stood tall. "Every gown I designed had a secret signature. In the lining of the inner corset, right beneath the left sweetheart seam, I hand-stitched my grandmother’s initials, E.V., using a unique gold-threaded French knot. Victoria doesn't know how to do that stitch. If you open that dress, you will find it."

Victoria’s arrogant smirk instantly vanished. Her face drained of all color, and she began to sweat profusely. "We cannot damage a fifty-thousand-dollar gown for the whims of a stranger!" she stammered, blocking the door. But Arthur’s expression grew ice-cold. He pushed past her, leading Clara into the boutique. The wealthy customers watched in absolute silence as Arthur demanded the head seamstress bring him the gown and a seam ripper.

With trembling hands, the seamstress turned the inner bodice of the magnificent gown inside out. She gently pulled back the silk lining near the left seam. There, gleaming under the bright boutique lights, were the tiny, perfectly executed gold-threaded letters: E.V.

Arthur turned to Victoria, his voice dangerously quiet. "You are fired, Victoria. My lawyers will ensure you never work in this industry again, and I will personally see to it that you face grand theft charges." Turning back to Clara, Arthur’s eyes softened. He wrapped his coat around her shoulders. "It's time to come home, Clara. Your studio is waiting for you." Clinging to Arthur, Clara realized her husband's legacy and her own creative soul were finally safe, proving that even from the ashes of tragedy, true talent will always find a way to shine.
