Previously: When a crying young boy stopped Claire on a wet street, she never expected him to hold the exact twin to her family's most precious, long-lost heirloom.

A Reunion in the Dark

The room was small and dimly lit by a single, buzzing bulb. In the corner, on a thin mattress, a woman lay shivering under a pile of faded blankets. Her face was pale and drawn, but as she turned her head toward the door, Claire recognized the unmistakable green eyes of her sister.

"Elena?"
Claire whispered, stepping into the room.

The woman gasped, her eyes widening in disbelief.

"Claire? No... how is this possible?"

Claire rushed to the bedside, falling to her knees and throwing her arms around her sister. They clung to each other, weeping tears of grief and overwhelming relief. Elena explained through her tears that she had fled years ago to escape a dangerous situation, losing her memory after a severe accident shortly after arriving in the city. It was only when she gave birth to Leo that her memories slowly began to return, but by then, she was trapped in poverty and too ashamed and fearful to return home.

"I thought you would hate me for disappearing,"
Elena sobbed, clutching Claire's coat.

"I could never hate you,"
Claire cried, kissing her sister's forehead.
"We've searched for you every single day. You're safe now. Both of you."

Claire helped Elena stand, wrapping her warm wool coat around her sister's frail shoulders. She took Leo's hand, holding the gold leaf pins together in her palm. Reunited at last, the twin gems caught the light, no longer symbols of a broken past, but of a bright, unbreakable future.

True family is a bond that no passage of time, distance, or hardship can ever truly sever.
