Previously: When Elena’s boyfriend handed her a eviction notice in front of all their friends, he thought he was getting rid of her. He had no idea what was actually inside.

The Hidden Truth

Inside the bedroom, Elena closed the door and let out the breath she had been holding. Her hands trembled slightly as she tore open the brown envelope. She expected to find a crude, typed-out eviction notice from Liam. Instead, she found a formal thirty-day notice to vacate, but underneath it lay a document that made her gasp.

It was a copy of the master lease agreement. In his haste to pack her things and hand her the notice, Liam had mistakenly printed his eviction letter on the back of the building's official ownership lease. He had been boasting to their friends for months about how he solely paid the hefty rent for their luxury apartment, pretending to be the ultimate provider.

What Liam didn't know was that the anonymous holding company listed as the property owner, Oakridge Holdings, wasn't a faceless corporation. It was a private real estate trust established by Elena’s late grandfather—a trust of which Elena was the sole trustee and beneficiary. She had kept her wealth quiet, wanting to build a genuine life with Liam without money getting in the way. He had been paying rent directly to her family's trust all along.

A cold, sharp anger replaced her sadness. Elena realized why Liam was doing this. For weeks, he had been getting close to Chloe, a wealthy heiress who had recently joined their social circle. Liam wanted Elena out so he could invite Chloe to move in and secure his social climbing dreams.

Elena gripped the papers, a slow smile spreading across her face. She walked back out into the open-plan kitchen, where Liam was already poured a drink, acting as if he had just won a great victory.

"You really want me out by the end of the month, Liam?" Elena asked, stepping back into the light.

Liam smirked, swirling his glass. "It's just business, Elena. The lease is under my name, and I think it's time we both moved on."
