A Cruel Ex Ruined Her Life, But a Wealthy Stranger Had Other Plans
The Shattered Tray
The warm, golden light of the walnut-paneled dining room did little to ease the tension in Sarah’s chest. For months, the high-end restaurant had been her sanctuary, a place where she could lose herself in the mindless rhythm of service, far away from the wreckage of her past. Clad in her neat black button-down and trousers, she carried a heavy tray of imported crystal glasses, navigating the crowded floor with practiced grace. But sanctuary is a fragile thing, easily shattered by a ghost.
She didn't see him until it was too late. Out of the corner of her eye, a tall, bald figure materialized from the shadows near the bar. It was Marcus. The man who had stripped her of her dignity, stolen her life savings, and left her with nothing but debts and nightmares. Before Sarah could even gasp, Marcus lunged forward, his shoulder slamming aggressively into hers with deliberate, calculated force.
"Watch where you're going, garbage," he muttered, his voice dripping with malice.
The impact sent Sarah spinning. Time slowed as the tray slipped from her fingers. She crashed heavily onto the hard wooden floor, the expensive glasses shattering into hundreds of razor-sharp shards around her. Cold water soaked through her clothes, and a sharp pain flared in her palms as she instinctively tried to break her fall. Through a blur of tears, she watched Marcus’s dark bomber jacket retreat toward the exit. He didn't even look back.
Bleeding and humiliated, Sarah crawled among the debris, desperately trying to avoid further injury. The whispers of the wealthy patrons buzzed in her ears like a swarm of hornets. Panic seized her throat.
"Help! Somebody help me, please!" she sobbed, looking up at a sea of indifferent faces.
Suddenly, the heavy glass doors of the restaurant swung open. Thomas, a well-groomed regular customer known for his quiet demeanor and immaculate black wool coat, stepped into the room. He took in the scene instantly. His gaze locked onto Sarah’s tear-stained face, and his expression hardened into a serious, protective glare.
