Thomas pulled out his phone and made a single, brief call to his chief financial officer. Without breaking eye contact with Marcus, he gave a simple command.

"Cancel the investment strategy for the Westside development. Permanently. And let our associates know why."

Marcus gasped as his entire future crumbled in a matter of seconds. The multi-million dollar deal that was supposed to save him from bankruptcy was gone. Security guards, summoned by the manager, quickly escorted the disgraced developer out into the cold night, leaving him with nothing.

Thomas turned back to Sarah, his serious expression softening. He walked over to her and offered a warm smile. He explained that he had been looking for an honest, resilient manager to run his newest luxury hospitality venue. Seeing how she carried herself, and knowing the injustice she had faced, he offered her the position on the spot, complete with a salary that would change her life forever.
