Previously: When a heartless receptionist refused to let a dying five-year-old girl see a doctor, she had no idea the girl's father held a secret that would cost her everything.

A Shocking Confrontation

Mark refused to back down. He knew that every second counted. Lily’s forehead was burning hot, and she was beginning to drift in and out of consciousness. "Call security then!" Mark roared, his voice shaking the glass partitions of the clinic. "But if anything happens to my daughter, I will hold you personally responsible!"

Brenda reached for the telephone, her face twisted in spite. But before she could dial, the heavy double doors leading to the examination rooms swung open. A tall, distinguished-looking man in a white doctor's coat stepped into the reception area, his brow furrowed in deep concern. It was Dr. Julian Vance, the chief medical officer and owner of the clinic.

"What is going on out here?"

Dr. Vance asked, his authoritative voice instantly silencing the room.

Brenda immediately changed her demeanor, putting on a victimized act. "Dr. Vance, this man is causing a scene and refusing to follow clinic protocol. I was just about to have him removed."

Dr. Vance ignored Brenda and walked straight toward the trembling child. But as his eyes drifted from Lily to the desperate father standing over her, the doctor froze. His breath caught in his throat, and the color drained completely from his face. Mark stared back, his anger momentarily replaced by a deep, painful shock.

"Mark?"

Dr. Vance whispered, his voice trembling.

"Is that really you?"

Brenda looked back and forth between them, her smug expression melting into confusion. She had no idea that the man she had just threatened to throw out was the estranged son Dr. Vance had spent the last fifteen years searching for. But there was no time for a family reunion. Dr. Vance looked down at Lily’s rigid abdomen and his medical instincts kicked in. "She has acute appendicitis," he declared urgently. "We need to get her to the operating room right now!"
