The cold autumn rain fell in relentless sheets, turning the cobblestone driveway of the Grand Plaza Hotel into a shimmering, dark mirror. Warm, golden light spilled from the hotel's towering glass entrance, casting an ironic glow over the miserable night. Outside, a sleek black sedan purred to a halt. Inside, Victoria straightened her sparkling pearl-white evening gown, adjusting the diamond necklace that rested against her collarbone. She was the picture of elite sophistication, a woman who had spent her entire life building an impenetrable fortress of wealth and status.

But that fortress was about to shatter.

Through the downpour, a figure emerged. Liam, a nineteen-year-old boy with sandy blonde hair plastered to his forehead, ran toward the idling vehicle. His olive-green jacket was soaked through, heavy with rainwater and despair. Clutching a wet piece of paper, he threw it violently against the passenger window.

"This is your fault!"

he screamed, his voice cracking with a raw, agonizing pain that cut through the sound of the falling rain.

Before the driver could react, Liam yanked the heavy car door open. Victoria gasped, her eyes widening in indignation as the cold wind swept into the warm cabin.

"Have you lost your mind?"

she demanded, her voice dripping with aristocratic authority as she stepped out onto the wet pavement, trying to shield her gown from the deluge.

But her defiance withered the moment she looked into Liam’s eyes. They were filled with tears, reflecting the streetlights in a desperate, broken shimmer.

"You left my mother begging in the rain, and never looked back,"

Liam cried, his chest heaving. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled, wet black-and-white photograph, thrusting it mere inches from Victoria’s face.

"She said you were my real mother."

Victoria’s breath hitched. Looking at the faded image of a young woman holding an infant, her pristine facade crumbled, revealing a ghost from a past she had spent nineteen years trying to bury.
