Previously: When 19-year-old Liam confronted the wealthy Victoria outside a luxury hotel, he held a wet photograph that shattered her glamorous life, forcing her to confront a secret she thought she had buried forever.

The Secret in the Rain

The hotel’s security guards rushed forward, their heavy boots splashing through the puddles as they moved to restrain the hysterical teenager. But Victoria raised a trembling hand, her voice barely a whisper yet carrying absolute authority.

"No, leave him. Let him go,"

she commanded, her eyes locked on the crumpled photograph in Liam's hand.

The guards hesitated, then backed away into the shadows. Victoria looked at Liam, the rain ruining her carefully styled blonde waves, but she no longer cared about her appearance. The boy standing before her had the exact same sea-green eyes as the man she had loved and lost nearly two decades ago.

"Liam,"

she whispered, her voice trembling.

"It’s not what you think. I didn't abandon you because I didn't want you."

"Then why?"
Liam sobbed, his anger burning through the freezing cold.
"Why did Sarah raise me in poverty? Why did she have to beg for scraps while you lived in this luxury? She died last week, Victoria! She died believing she was a burden, and she told me the truth only with her final breath!"

Victoria closed her eyes, a tear escaping and mixing with the rain on her cheek. She explained that nineteen years ago, she was a powerless teenager herself, controlled by a ruthless family empire. When she became pregnant, her father threatened to ruin the life of the young man she loved and put the baby up for anonymous adoption.

"I was told you were going to a wealthy family who would give you everything,"

Victoria wept, her expensive gown now thoroughly ruined by the storm.

"I paid Sarah, my former maid, to take you and raise you safely where my father could never find you. I sent her money every single month through an offshore account. I thought you were safe. I thought you were happy."

Liam stared at her, his anger suddenly giving way to a profound, confusing horror.

"We never received a single dollar,"
he whispered.
"Sarah worked three jobs just to keep a roof over our heads."
