The bailiff took the yellow recorder from Audrey and handed it to the judge. Melissa’s lawyer, Joseph, immediately stood up to object, arguing that the device was unauthenticated and inadmissible. However, Judge Diana, sensing the gravity of the situation, overruled the objection and ordered the court technician to connect the recorder to the courtroom's audio system.
A heavy, breathless silence fell over the room. For a few seconds, there was only static. Then, a familiar voice filled the courtroom—Arthur’s voice, raspy but clear.
"Why are you changing my pills, Melissa?"
Arthur’s voice asked from the speakers. The courtroom gasped. Melissa gripped the edge of her table, her knuckles turning white.
