Justice in the Cold
Before Silas’s men could draw their weapons, a sharp click echoed from the shadows of the back room. The door swung open to reveal the Territorial Marshal, flanked by three heavily armed deputies. Arthur’s eyes flashed with a quiet, triumphant satisfaction.
"Did you really think we didn't have telegraph lines out here, Silas?" Arthur asked softly. "I wired the Marshal the moment Catherine showed me the contents of her suitcase. The Governor himself verified the journals. You're the one wanted for fraud, conspiracy, and the suspected murder of your own brother."
Silas’s face drained of color as he realized he had walked directly into a trap. His hired guns, realizing they were outmatched and outgunned by federal authorities, slowly raised their hands. Silas was disarmed and shackled in a matter of moments, his reign of terror brought to a sudden, freezing halt.

As the deputies led the criminals away into the snow, the heavy silence of the frontier settled over the room once more. Catherine stood trembling, not from fear, but from the overwhelming realization that she was finally free. The shadow that had hung over her life for so long had vanished.
Arthur walked over to her, picking up his tin star and pinning it back onto his heavy leather duster. He looked down at her with the same warm, steady gaze that had welcomed her to Bitter Creek.
"The storm is over, Catherine," Arthur said gently, offering her a hand. "You don't have to run anymore."
Taking his hand, Catherine knew she had found more than just safety in this frozen wilderness; she had found a place to rebuild her broken life. True justice is not found in the letter of a corrupt law, but in the hearts of those brave enough to stand against the storm for the sake of the innocent.
