Diner Manager Fires Teen for Saving Choking Boy, but the Father’s Call Changes Everything

The bell of the busy roadside diner chimed constantly, but inside the greasy kitchen, seventeen-year-old Wyatt only heard the sizzle of the grill and the harsh barks of his manager, Victor. Victor was a bald, bitter man who cared only about turnaround times and profit margins. Wyatt, wearing his dark grey t-shirt and black gloves, was busy scrubbing dishes when a sudden, terrifying gasp echoed from the dining area. Through the pass-through window, Wyatt saw a young boy in a navy blue hoodie, Lucas, clawing desperately at his throat. His face was turning a dangerous shade of blue. His father, Robert, was panicking, frantically patting his back, but it wasn't working.

"Get back to work!"

Victor yelled, grabbing Wyatt's shoulder as the teen bolted toward the kitchen doors. But Wyatt ignored him. He burst into the bright, warm diner light, rushed to Lucas's side, and locked his arms around the boy's abdomen. With three precise, powerful thrusts of the Heimlich maneuver, a lodged piece of hard candy flew out of the boy's airway. Lucas gasped, drawing in a deep, desperate breath of oxygen as the surrounding customers sighed in collective relief.

Wyatt collapsed back, sweating but relieved. But before Robert could even thank him, Victor stepped forward from the kitchen doors, his face twisted in rage.

"You abandoned your station during peak hours," Victor sneered, pointing a finger at the door. "You're fired. Pack your things and get out of my diner."

The entire diner fell dead silent. Wyatt’s heart sank; he desperately needed this job to help support his family. But before he could speak, Robert grabbed Wyatt’s arm, pulling him back. The middle-aged man held up his phone, dialing a number with trembling fingers. He looked Victor dead in the eye, then spoke into the receiver: "This young man just saved a child's life. Yes, this is Dr. Michael Carter."
