Previously: My fiancée swore my daughter wasn't mine. Then six-year-old Maya handed me a sealed forensic dossier. The truth shattered everything—and the guard's handcuffs were just the beginning.

The DNA That Couldn't Be Forged

I had one card left to play—my father's old friend, Judge Harrison. He had known my father better than anyone, and he had the resources to verify the truth. I called him that night, my voice steady despite the chaos inside me.

“Rafael,” he said, his voice grave. “I've seen the documents Edward showed you. But there's something you need to know.”

“What is it?”

“Your father had a daughter, yes. But she died in infancy. The will Edward has is a forgery—one of many he's been crafting for years. He's a con artist, Rafael. He's been waiting for the perfect moment to strike.”

I felt a surge of relief, but it was short-lived. “How do I prove it?”

“There's a sealed court order in my office, from your father's estate. It contains a DNA sample from his true heir—you. We can run a comparison with Maya's sample. If it matches, then she is your biological child, and Edward's lies will crumble.”

I didn't hesitate. I took Maya to Judge Harrison's chambers the next morning, holding her hand as the technician drew a drop of blood from her finger. She didn't cry, just looked up at me with trust in her eyes.

“Papa, will I still be your daughter?” she asked.

“You will always be my daughter, Maya. No matter what.”

Two days later, the results came back. Judge Harrison called me into his office, his face unreadable. “Rafael, the DNA test has been completed. Maya is your biological daughter. The earlier report was indeed a forgery—Edward's work. He had access to the hospital records and fabricated everything.”

I felt the weight of the world lift from my shoulders. I hugged Maya so tightly she squealed, and I didn't care who saw the tears streaming down my face.

We returned to the mansion, where Edward was waiting in the study, a smug look on his face. “Have you come to your senses, Rafael?”

“Actually,” I said, pulling out the new DNA report, “I've come to show you this.”

He read the document, his face paling. “This is impossible.”

“No, Edward. This is justice.”

I signaled to the guards, who had been waiting in the hallway. They seized him, and for the first time, I saw fear in his eyes. “You'll regret this,” he spat.

“I doubt that,” I said. “Your accomplice Sabrina is already singing like a bird to the prosecutors. She's given us everything—including your name.”

Edward's face twisted in rage, but he was dragged away, his schemes finally unraveled.

That evening, I sat with Maya on the velvet sofa, the fire crackling in the hearth. She played with the wooden chess king, her favorite toy. “Papa, what happened to the bad people?”

“They're going to prison, sweetheart. And they'll be there for a long time.”

She nodded, satisfied, and leaned her head against my arm. “I'm glad I'm your daughter.”

“Me too, Maya. Me too.”

I looked out the window at the last rays of the setting sun, and I knew that this was just the beginning. But for now, I had everything I needed.

The truth had set us free.

And I would spend the rest of my life protecting the little girl who had saved me.
