The DNA Report She Slammed Down Was Fake — But the One in My Hands Was Real
Previously: Sabrina thought she’d won with her forged crib log. But Clara had the one thing she never expected — the certified court file that would shatter everything.
Sabrina’s Scream That Changed Everything
Gideon’s hand tightened on my shoulder. I felt the tremor run through him. Sabrina’s words hung in the air like smoke.
“What did you say?” Gideon’s voice was low, dangerous.

Sabrina twisted in the officers’ grip, her raven hair falling loose from its updo. “Your precious mother — the one who ‘disappeared’ — she’s not gone. She’s locked away. And if you ever want to see her again, you’ll let me go.”
I felt my heart stop. My mother. The woman who had handed me the dossier, who had kissed my cheek and said, “Trust the system, baby.” She had vanished the next day. I thought she had run from Sabrina’s threats. But this — this was so much worse.
Gideon’s face was a mask of ice. “Where is she?”
Sabrina smiled, a thin, cruel line. “Let me go, and I’ll tell you. I have a car waiting outside. You’ll never find her without me.”
The officers looked at Gideon, waiting for the order. I could see the war in his eyes — the desire to have her arrested, the need to find my mother.
“Don’t,” I whispered. “Don’t let her go.”
But Gideon was already moving. He stepped forward, his face inches from hers. “You will tell me where she is. Now.”
Sabrina laughed — a broken, desperate sound. “You think I’m afraid of you? I have a video. A video of your mother, alive, begging for help. If anything happens to me, it goes public. And the world will know what a monster you truly are.”
Gideon’s jaw clenched. I could see the vein in his temple throbbing. “You’re bluffing.”
“Am I?” She reached into her cleavage and pulled out a small USB drive, holding it up like a trophy. “This is my insurance policy. It’s sitting in a safe deposit box, with instructions to release it if I don’t return tonight.”
I stared at the drive, my mind racing. My mother’s face, frozen on a screen. Begging. And I knew — I knew that if Sabrina walked out of that room, we would never see her again.
The Hidden Room
Gideon stopped the officers with a single raised hand. “Release her.”
“What?” I scrambled to my feet, Nico still in my arms. “Gideon, you can’t!”
He turned to me, his eyes burning. “I’m not letting her go. I’m making her take us to your mother.”
Sabrina’s smile widened. “Now you’re talking sense. But we do this on my terms. My car, my driver. You two come alone. Anyone else, and the drive goes public.”
I wanted to scream. I wanted to claw her eyes out. But I looked at Gideon, and I saw something I hadn’t seen before — a man who was willing to risk everything for family.
“Okay,” I said, my voice barely a whisper. “We’ll go.”
Sabrina led us out of the courthouse, the officers trailing at a distance. Her black sedan was waiting at the curb. She slid into the backseat, patting the leather beside her. “Climb in, little family.”
Gideon helped me in, his hand steady on my back. He kept Nico’s carrier between us, a barrier of protection.
The drive was silent. The city lights blurred past the tinted windows. I held Nico’s hand, feeling his tiny fingers wrap around mine.
After an hour, we pulled up to an abandoned warehouse on the edge of town. The windows were boarded, the siding peeling. Sabrina got out, her heels clicking on the cracked pavement.
“She’s inside,” Sabrina said, nodding toward a rusted door. “Go ahead. But remember — I have the drive. One wrong move, and the world sees the video.”
Gideon pushed the door open. It creaked, revealing a dark, dusty room lit by a single swinging bulb. And there, in the corner, huddled on a mattress, was my mother.
She was thin, pale, her hair matted. But she was alive.
“Mom!” I rushed to her, falling to my knees, Nico still clutched to my chest. She looked up, her eyes filling with tears.
“Clara,” she breathed. “You found me.”
I sobbed, pressing my forehead to hers. “I’m so sorry. I should have known.”
“It’s not your fault, baby.” Her voice was weak. “Sabrina — she’s been planning this for months. She wanted to take Gideon’s money, and she needed you out of the way.”
I looked up at Gideon, who stood in the doorway, his face dark. “She’s not getting away with this.”
But as I turned, I saw Sabrina behind him, holding a small remote in her hand. “Oh, she’s not,” Sabrina said. “But neither are you.”
And then the floor beneath us gave way.
