A Father Discovers Why His Son Only Felt Safe in the Maid's Arms

The grand ballroom of the Whispering Pines estate was ablaze with crystal chandeliers and the chatter of elite society. Thomas, a prominent real estate mogul, stood in his tailored tuxedo, but his heart was heavy. Beside him, his beautiful wife, Sarah, shone in an ice-blue sequined gown, her smile flawless as she greeted guests. Yet, their five-year-old son, Leo, stood shivering, his tiny hand clutching not his stepmother's expensive dress, but the faded grey sleeve of Elena, their live-in maid.

Sensing his son's deep-rooted anxiety, Thomas knelt down on the polished marble floor, ignoring the whispers of the crowd. He looked into his son’s tear-filled eyes. "Who made you feel safe, Leo?" he asked gently, desperately wanting to hear his wife's name.

Sarah’s smile widened, confident and poised. But Leo’s sandy hair brushed against Elena's arm as he gripped her tighter.

"Elena sang to me when I was alone in the hospital,"

Leo sobbed, tears finally spilling down his cheeks. "She stayed with me."

A collective gasp rippled through the ballroom. An older socialite in the front row covered her mouth in shock. Sarah's flawless facade cracked instantly. Her eyes darted around the room, her voice rising defensively.

"Children lie when they are scared, Thomas! He's just confused from the medication!"

Leo looked directly at Sarah, his little voice trembling but resolute. "I was scared because of you. You left me in the dark."

Elena stood weeping silently, her head bowed as if expecting to be fired on the spot. Thomas felt a cold dread settle in his chest. His gaze shifted from his weeping son to his wife, whose face distorted into a mask of pure, furious rage.
