A Father Returns Home Early and Catches His Wife Humiliating His Daughter
The Fallen Princess
The cold marble of the mansion’s entryway chilled Emily to the bone, but it was nothing compared to the icy glare of her stepmother. Clad in a scratchy, ill-fitting black maid uniform, nineteen-year-old Emily scrubbed the pristine white tiles, her tears mixing with the soapy water. Her hands, once accustomed to playing the piano, were raw and red. Behind her sat Eleanor, draped in an olive green silk dress, sipping tea with an expression of supreme satisfaction.
"Make sure you get the grout, Emily," Eleanor drawled, her voice dripping with venom. "A girl with no future should at least learn how to clean properly. Since your father isn't here to coddle you, you will earn your keep."
Emily bit her lip, trying to suppress her sobs. For three weeks, while her father Richard was away on an international business trip, Eleanor had transformed Emily’s life into a living nightmare. She had moved Emily’s belongings to the drafty attic, confiscated her phone, and forced her into hard labor under the threat of cutting off her college tuition. Emily had stayed silent, terrified of breaking her father's heart.
Suddenly, the heavy oak double doors swung open. The sound echoed through the high-ceilinged foyer. Emily gasped, looking up through her tear-blurred vision. Standing in the doorway, suitcase in hand, was Richard.
"Dad! Dad, she's making me..." Emily cried out, her voice cracking with desperation.
Eleanor’s smug expression vanished for a fraction of a second before morphing into a dazzling, false smile. She stepped forward, smoothing her silk dress.
"Darling! You're home early!" she cooed, stepping over the bucket of dirty water as if it were nothing but a minor inconvenience.
But Richard did not move. His eyes scanned the scene—the bucket, the maid uniform, and his only daughter sobbing on the floor. His face hardened into a mask of pure, unadulterated fury. He looked coldly at his new wife, his voice vibrating with a dangerous quietness.
"Why is my daughter kneeling?" he demanded.
