Eleanor let out a nervous, high-pitched laugh, her hand fluttering to her throat.

"Oh, Richard, don't be so dramatic! It's just a little game we were playing. Emily wanted to learn the value of hard work, didn't you, dear?"

She shot Emily a warning look, a silent threat that promised severe consequences if she dared to speak the truth.

But the sight of her father gave Emily a sudden surge of courage. She stood up, her knees shaking, and wiped her eyes.

"It’s not a game, Dad," Emily sobbed, her voice trembling but clear. "The moment you left, she locked me out of my room. She took my phone, my laptop, and told me I was nothing but a charity case. She said if I didn't clean the house and serve her, she would make sure you wrote me out of your will!"

Eleanor’s face flushed a deep, angry red.

"She’s lying, Richard! The girl has always been unstable and jealous of our marriage! I was only trying to teach her some discipline!"

Richard walked past Eleanor as if she were invisible. He dropped his suitcase, stepped onto the wet marble, and pulled Emily into a tight, protective embrace. "I am so sorry, sweetheart," he whispered, his voice cracking with emotion. "I should have never left you alone with her."

When Richard turned back to Eleanor, his eyes were like chips of ice.

"Do you take me for a fool, Eleanor?"

he asked, his voice deadly calm.

"I built this empire from nothing. Do you really think I wouldn't notice the security cameras I installed last year? The ones you thought were disabled, but actually upload directly to my private server?"

Eleanor went deathly pale. Her mouth opened, but no sound came out. She had spent weeks believing she was entirely in control, completely unaware that her cruelty had been recorded in high definition.
