Previously: When Lawrence came home early to find his glamorous fiancée forcing his sister to scrub the marble floors, a dark family secret surfaced, changing all of their lives forever.

A Sudden Change of Fortune

Charlotte realized the gravity of her mistake. Her family's struggling real estate business was entirely dependent on Lawrence’s upcoming merger. If he backed out now, her family would face absolute bankruptcy, and her social standing would be ruined. She lunged forward, grabbing Lawrence’s arm.

"Lawrence, please! It was a misunderstanding! I was just stressed about the wedding! I'll apologize to her, I swear!" she sobbed, tears spilling over her heavy makeup.

Lawrence calmly but firmly peeled her fingers off his suit jacket.

"The wedding is off," Lawrence said. "The phone call I just made was to my attorney. The deed to this house, which was supposed to be transferred into both our names tomorrow, remains solely mine. Actually, it belongs to Hannah."

Charlotte spun around to look at Hannah, who stood tall and composed.

"You have one hour to pack your things and leave," Hannah said, her voice steady and devoid of the malice Charlotte had shown her. "The security team will escort you out."

With no options left, Charlotte wept openly as she realized her life of luxury had vanished in a single afternoon. She had traded her future for a moment of petty cruelty.

An hour later, the mansion was quiet once more. Lawrence sat on the steps beside his sister, handing her a fresh cup of tea. He looked at her worn hands and felt a pang of guilt.

"I'm sorry I let her treat you like that, Hannah," Lawrence murmured.

Hannah smiled, leaning her head against his shoulder.

"Don't be," she replied. "Now we know who she really was. A house is just wood and stone, Lawrence. It's the people inside who make it a home."

True wealth is never measured by the grandeur of one's estate, but by the kindness and respect we show to those we believe have nothing to offer.
