The afternoon sun streamed through the massive glass windows of Terminal 4, casting long, golden shadows across the polished grey tiles. Marcus wiped his brow, pushing his heavy yellow cleaning cart along the concourse. At twenty-four, he was used to being invisible. To the thousands of travelers rushing past him every day, he was just a uniform—a young man in a safety vest keeping the floors clean. But Marcus didn’t mind. He took pride in his work, always offering a warm smile to anyone who looked his way.

A Sudden Crisis

As he neared Gate 12, Marcus noticed an elderly man walking slowly toward the seating area. The man, dressed in a worn leather jacket, suddenly stopped. His face turned pale, and he clutched his chest, his fingers digging into the leather. With a faint groan, he dropped his bag and fell to his knees on the glossy floor.

Marcus didn’t hesitate. Abandoning his cart, he rushed to the man’s side.

"Sir! Are you okay? Can you hear me?"
Marcus asked, kneeling on the hard floor. The man collapsed flat onto his back, his breathing shallow and labored. Marcus supported his head, trying to keep him conscious.
"He needs help. Thank you, son. God bless you,"
the man whispered weakly, his hand trembling as he gripped Marcus’s arm.

Before Marcus could call for medical assistance, a sharp voice echoed behind him. Victoria, the terminal manager, strode over with her arms crossed.

"Marcus! What do you think you're doing? Mind your own business and get back to work,"
she snapped, her eyes cold. Marcus looked up in disbelief.
"He’s having a medical emergency, Victoria! I need to help him!"
he protested. But Victoria was unmoved. Without a shred of empathy, she reached down and ripped the ID badge right off Marcus’s lanyard.
"You're fired. Clear your locker and get the hell out,"
she demanded smugly.
