Thomas slammed the heavy glass door and turned the lock, leaving Leo and Marcus out in the freezing rain. Leo sighed, but he didn't regret his choice. He helped Marcus stand, draping the older man's heavy, wet arm over his shoulders. Together, they slowly walked a few yards down the street to a small bus shelter that offered some protection from the biting wind.

Leo handed Marcus his dry apron to help dry his face.

"Are you going to be okay, sir? Do we need to call an ambulance?"

Leo asked, shivering in his soaked shirt. Marcus shook his head, a faint, appreciative smile touching his bruised lips.

"No, young man. I don't need an ambulance. Just a moment to catch my breath. I was jumped by three muggers a few blocks away. They took my wallet, but they missed my phone."

Leo shook his head in anger.

"I can't believe Thomas just left you out there. He only cares about the cafe's image. I've worked there for a year, and I've never seen him show an ounce of kindness."

Marcus looked deeply at the young waiter.

"And yet, you risked your job for a stranger. Why?"

Leo shrugged simply.

"My mother always told me that a person's character is defined by how they treat those who can do nothing for them."

Marcus stared at him, deeply moved. Before he could reply, the bright headlights of a luxury black SUV pierced through the rainy darkness. The vehicle pulled up right to the curb in front of the bus shelter. A driver in a crisp suit quickly jumped out with a large umbrella, opening the door for a woman in an elegant business suit. She rushed toward Marcus with deep concern. "Mr. Sterling! Are you alright? We've been looking everywhere for you!" she exclaimed. Leo's jaw dropped as he realized the bruised man in the old leather jacket was someone of immense importance.
