A Dream Turned Nightmare

The soft, warm candlelight of the historic St. Jude’s Church bathed the wooden pews in a golden glow, creating an atmosphere that should have been purely magical. For Isabella, however, the air felt thick and suffocating. Standing at the altar in her exquisite lace gown and a cathedral-length veil, her heart hammered against her ribs. She had walked down the aisle alone because her father, a notoriously busy man, had been delayed by an urgent business emergency. But she had comforted herself with the thought of the man waiting for her at the altar. Carter, her fiancé of two years, stood before her in a deep blue tuxedo, looking every bit the perfect groom.

But as the priest began the opening blessings, the warmth in Carter’s eyes vanished, replaced by an icy, mocking glare. Leaning in close, ostensibly to adjust her veil, he whispered words that shattered Isabella’s world. "Do you really think I would marry a poor girl like you? I only used you," he murmured, letting out a soft, cruel laugh. He believed she was a penniless orphan, a quiet girl he could easily manipulate to project the image of a stable, married man for his corporate advancement.

Tears welled in Isabella’s eyes, spilling over her cheeks as she stared at him in utter disbelief. Before she could even gasp for air, the heavy oak doors at the back of the church swung open with a dramatic thud. A tall, commanding figure stepped into the light, his presence instantly commanding the room. It was David, dressed in a sharp, tailored charcoal suit.

"Sorry I'm late, daughter, I was in an important meeting,"
David called out, his deep voice echoing off the high stone ceilings as he strode confidently down the aisle. Carter’s confident smirk evaporated instantly. His face turned a ghostly pale as David approached. Stuttering violently, Carter gasped,
"Boss? You're her father?"
