Previously: When Carter whispered cruel insults at the altar, he thought Isabella was a penniless orphan. But the doors swung open, revealing her father—who also happened to be Carter's billionaire boss.

The Price of Deceit

The silence in the church was absolute, broken only by the sound of David’s expensive leather shoes clicking against the marble floor. Carter stood frozen, his eyes darting frantically between Isabella and the man who held his entire professional destiny in his hands. David Vance was not just any boss; he was the billionaire CEO of Vance Global, the conglomerate where Carter had spent the last three years desperately trying to climb the corporate ladder. Carter had spent months trying to secure a simple five-minute meeting with David, never once realizing that the 'poor, working-class girl' he was dating was the sole heiress to the Vance empire.

Isabella wiped the tears from her face, her sorrow rapidly transforming into cold anger. She watched as Carter took a trembling step forward, his hands shaking as he tried to find his voice.

"Mr. Vance... I—I didn't realize. This is a misunderstanding. I love Isabella, I was just... it was a joke,"
he stammered, his voice cracking under the weight of his terror.

David stopped at the foot of the altar, placing a protective arm around his daughter. His eyes, cold as glaciers, locked onto Carter. "A joke, Carter? Is that what you call insulting my daughter at the altar of God?" David asked, his voice dangerously low. He reached into the breast pocket of his charcoal suit and pulled out a sleek leather folder. "I was late today because of an important meeting indeed. A meeting with our head of forensic accounting."

Carter’s breath hitched. David opened the folder, revealing several pages of financial statements.

"You thought marrying a 'poor girl' would make you look like a humble family man, helping you cover up the fact that you have been embezzling corporate funds to pay off your personal debts. I have the bank records right here, Carter. Your little game is over."
