The chapel fell into a dead, suffocating silence as the recording continued to play. The voice was unmistakably David's, devoid of the warmth he usually showed me. It was cold, calculating, and cruel. He was speaking to someone else, a woman whose voice I also recognized immediately—my own cousin, Sarah, who had claimed she couldn't make it to the wedding due to a sudden illness.
