Previously: When David handed Laura a brown envelope in front of their smirking friends, he thought he was finally rid of her. He had no idea she held the ultimate card.

The Ultimate Payback

Laura walked past the stunned trio and stood in the center of the living room. She reached into her small handbag and pulled out a crisp, official-looking document, laying it flat on the marble counter where the champagne bottle sat.

"You’re right, David. Things are very clear," Laura said calmly. "Which is why you, Sarah, and Marcus need to listen carefully."

David scoffed, stepping forward.

"Is this a joke? You don't have a right to be here. My name is on the lease."

Laura smiled, tapping the document.

"Actually, your lease was flagged this morning for a violation regarding unauthorized long-term guests—specifically, Sarah and Marcus living here rent-free. And as the new owner of this entire building, I’ve decided not to renew your tenancy. In fact, you have exactly twenty-four hours to vacate the premises."

David’s face drained of color. He snatched the paper, his eyes scanning the official letterhead of the holding company, landing on Laura's name listed as the primary shareholder and landlord. Sarah and Marcus gasped, their smug expressions instantly melting into panic. Marcus quickly grabbed his jacket, suddenly realizing they had crossed the wrong person.

"Laura... wait," David stammered, his voice losing all its previous arrogance. "We can talk about this. I didn't mean those things. We can work this out!"

He reached out to touch her arm, but Laura stepped back, her gaze ice-cold. She looked at the man she had once loved, realizing how small he truly was.

"No one should stay where they're only tolerated, David," she repeated, throwing his own words back at him. "And right now, you are no longer tolerated here. Pack your things."

Without waiting for a response, Laura turned her back on them and walked into the master bedroom, locking the door behind her. As she heard the frantic whispering and packing outside, she smiled. She had lost a dishonest partner, but she had gained her freedom, her power, and a very valuable piece of real estate.

True self-worth can never be bought or sold, and sometimes, the best response to humiliation is showing them exactly who you are.

The End
