An Unexpected Messenger in the Field

The heavy roar of the Iron Brotherhood’s motorcycles finally died down, leaving only the whispering wind across the open, grassy field. Jax, the club’s president, ran a hand over his shaved head, his fingers tracing the rugged scars on his face. He loved the quiet moments after a long run, but today, that peace was shattered by the sound of hurried footsteps. Turning around, Jax spotted a small figure running across the field.

It was a boy, no older than six, with wild curls of blonde hair bouncing as he ran. He wore a miniature denim vest that looked worn and oversized. Suddenly, the boy tripped on a thick clump of grass, tumbling hard onto the ground. Jax’s survival instincts flared, but before he could move, the boy scrambled back up. He wasn't crying from the fall; instead, he clutched a small object to his chest like a shield.

The boy walked straight up to Jax, his eyes wide with desperate urgency. He held out his hands, offering a beautifully detailed, hand-carved toy motorcycle.

"Please sir, buy it,"
the boy pleaded, his voice trembling.

Jax knelt down on the damp grass, bringing himself eye-to-eye with the child. He gently took the wooden toy. It was masterfully crafted, but what made Jax’s heart stop was the bottom of the toy. Carved into the wood was a double-headed phoenix—the exact crest of his estranged brother, Caleb.

"Who made this?"
Jax asked, his voice dropping to a gravelly whisper. The boy wiped his nose, fresh tears welling up.
"My dad,"
he whimpered. Jax felt a cold sweat break out.
"What's his name?"
Jax demanded gently. Toby looked up with trembling lips.
"He said if he died, I should find the biker who is my father."
