Previously: When a crying little boy approached a hardened biker gang with a handmade toy, no one expected the shocking secret he carried about his father’s true identity.

The Secret in the Rusty Truck

The words hung in the overcast air, heavy and unbelievable. The tough, leather-clad bikers of the Iron Brotherhood stood frozen, their usual rowdy banter completely silenced. Jax looked from the weeping boy, whose name was Toby, to the intricate wooden toy in his hand. The double-headed phoenix emblem was unmistakable. It was a secret symbol shared only between Jax and his brother Caleb, who had gone missing years ago after a bitter family dispute. But why would Caleb have Jax's son?

Jax gripped Toby’s small shoulders.

"Where is your dad, Toby? Where is the man who carved this?"
he asked, his heart hammering against his ribs. Toby turned and pointed a small, shaking finger toward the edge of the field, where a battered, rust-streaked pickup truck sat parked under the shadow of a weeping willow tree.
"He's in the truck,"
Toby whispered.
"He told me to go find the man with the scar. He said he couldn't walk anymore."

A dark wave of apprehension washed over Jax. Leaving his club brothers to watch over Toby, Jax strode toward the truck, his heavy boots sinking into the soft earth. With every step, the pieces of a painful past began to collide. Seven years ago, the love of his life, Sarah, had vanished without a trace, leaving him broken. Soon after, Caleb had also disappeared. Jax had always assumed they ran off together, a double betrayal that had hardened his heart forever.

Reaching the truck, Jax braced himself and pulled open the creaking driver's side door. Inside, slumped over the steering wheel, was not his brother Caleb, but an elderly man named Thomas, a loyal family friend. Thomas was weak, his breathing shallow, but his eyes flared with recognition. In his trembling hand, he held a thick yellow envelope.

"Jax,"
Thomas gasped, coughing weakly.
"Caleb didn't make it... but he kept his promise. You need to read this."
