The police officer took Nicole's phone as she opened the security app. Charles's face instantly drained of color. He stepped forward, attempting to grab the device, but the second officer blocked him. "Sir, step back and let us view the footage," the officer commanded.

On the screen, the video played with crystal-clear high-definition quality. It showed Frances walking out of the house, her foot catching on a loose, crumbling stone on the top step—a hazard Charles had repeatedly refused to fix despite Nicole's pleas. The footage clearly showed Nicole lunging forward, wrapping her arms around Frances to shield her from the concrete, taking the brunt of the impact herself.
