Previously: When Thomas brutally kicked a frail elderly woman outside his wife's hospital room, he thought he was protecting his lies. But one spilled bag of apples changed everything.

The Price of Truth

The truth crashed down on Jessica like a physical blow. Evelyn was not a stranger; she was her biological mother, whom Thomas had claimed had passed away in a tragic accident years ago before they even met. He had constructed an elaborate web of lies to keep them apart and control her life completely.

With trembling hands, Jessica unfolded the document Evelyn had carried. It was a certified copy of Jessica’s original birth certificate, alongside a recent bank statement. As Jessica scanned the financial document, her blood ran cold. It detailed massive monthly transfers from her late father's estate—money that was supposed to be locked in a trust for Jessica—going directly into an offshore account registered solely under Thomas’s name. He had been stealing her inheritance all along.

Evelyn spoke, her voice cracked with deep emotion.

"He paid off the investigators, Jessica. He threatened to ruin your reputation and take your inheritance if I ever tried to contact you. But when I heard you had a baby, I couldn't stay silent anymore. The green apples... they were your favorite when you were a little girl. I just wanted to bring you something from home."

Thomas’s face drained of all color as security guards closed in on him. He tried to scramble for an excuse, but his stuttering words fell on deaf ears. Jessica looked at the man she thought she loved and felt nothing but absolute disgust.

"Call the police immediately,"
Jessica ordered the security team, her voice steady and resolute.
"Tell them we have a clear case of domestic assault, identity theft, and grand financial fraud."

As Thomas was led away in handcuffs, his desperate cries fading down the hallway, Jessica knelt beside the elderly woman on the floor. She helped Evelyn sit up, ignoring the scattered green apples, and gently placed her newborn daughter into her grandmother's waiting arms. The physical and emotional pain of the past decade began to melt away in that tender embrace. Sometimes, the most painful truths are the ones that finally set us free.
