Jake’s dismissive attitude only fueled the tension. "Come on, let's go," Jake muttered to his friends, turning his back on Chloe and Luke as if they were beneath his notice. "She’s just a clumsy nobody who couldn't keep her life together anyway."

Luke wanted to press further, but his primary concern was Chloe. He helped her gather her damp papers and led her into a warm, nearby coffee shop. As she dried off, Chloe reluctantly opened up. She revealed that Jake wasn't just a random bully; he was her ex-partner who had abruptly ended their relationship months ago, taking their shared savings and leaving her to face eviction. She had been on her way to a desperate job interview when she fell.

"I have nothing left, and now my portfolio is ruined,"

Chloe sobbed, staring at the water-logged documents.

Luke listened intently, his expression shifting from sympathy to a quiet, calculating resolve. He looked at the logo on the ruined folder—it was for a senior project manager position at Vanguard Enterprises, a leading logistics firm in the city. A slow smile spread across Luke’s face.

"Don't worry about those papers, Chloe. And certainly don't worry about Jake. Sometimes, the universe has a very specific way of balancing the scales."

When Chloe asked him what he meant, Luke simply handed her his business card. It bore the name of Vanguard Enterprises, with his title listed at the very bottom: Chief Executive Officer.

"I was actually heading to our headquarters for a final-round interview tomorrow morning,"

Luke explained.

"We are hiring a new director. And as it turns out, I already know exactly who one of the top candidates is. A young man named Jake."

Chloe gasped, her eyes widening in realization. The very man who had humiliated her on the street was begging for a job at the company Luke owned.
