Previously: When a homeless teen miraculously cures a billionaire's paralysis in seconds, a million-dollar promise uncovers a dark, long-buried secret that threatens to destroy everything.

The Price of a Miracle

Arthur stared down at his feet, tears streaming down his face as he took another step. The impossible had happened. But when he turned to thank his savior, he was met with a cold, unforgiving gaze. The boy stood up and pulled a small, metallic device from his pocket—a bio-neural stimulator that Arthur recognized all too well.

The design was unmistakable. It belonged to Julian Vance, Arthur's former research partner. Twenty years ago, Arthur had stolen Julian's patents, claiming the revolutionary technology as his own and leaving Julian to die in poverty. Arthur's face paled as the truth dawned on him.

"My name is Leo Vance,"
the boy said, his voice trembling with a mixture of grief and anger.
"Julian Vance was my father. He spent his final years perfecting this device. He knew about your accident, Arthur. Despite what you did, he wanted to cure you."

Arthur felt a crushing weight of guilt.

"Leo... I don't know what to say. The million dollars is yours. I will give you anything."

Leo sneered, holding up a small remote control.

"I don't want your charity. The stimulator I used on you isn't permanent. It requires a signal from this remote every twenty-four hours to keep your nerves active. If you want to keep walking, you have twenty-four hours to call a press conference, confess your theft to the world, and sign over half your company to my father's estate."

Arthur stood frozen. Confessing would mean the utter destruction of his reputation, his legacy, and everything he had built. Refusing meant returning to the prison of his wheelchair. He was trapped in a nightmare of his own making.
