Amber sat huddled on a weathered wooden bench, her body shivering violently under a thin, dark green hooded cardigan. She had lost her boots to a thief days ago, and now her bare feet were pressed against the freezing, snow-covered ground, turning a dangerous shade of red. She closed her eyes, feeling the numbness slowly creeping up her legs, almost welcoming the quiet escape from her endless grief.

Suddenly, the soft crunch of snow broke the silence. Amber opened her eyes to see a little girl standing directly in front of her. The child, no older than six, was bundled up warmly in a bright red winter puffer coat and a cozy brown woolen beanie.
