Before Amber could process the little girl's words, the man in the background stepped forward. As the falling snow cleared, his face came into sharp focus, and Amber felt her heart plummet. It was Daniel. Two years ago, Amber had been a successful pediatric nurse, married to Daniel's brother, Thomas. But a catastrophic house fire had taken Thomas and their young daughter, Lily. "I found the real fire investigation report last week during my divorce. My ex-wife... she paid off the investigator to frame you. She was the one who set the fire to collect Thomas's life insurance. She is in police custody right now."

Amber stared at him, the world spinning. The woman who had ruined her life had been exposed, but the damage was already done.

"She let my baby die?"

Amber whispered, the revelation tearing a fresh hole in her heart.

Daniel nodded miserably.
