Arthur sat in his custom-designed wheelchair, staring out at the luminous New York City skyline. At fifty-five, he possessed billions in assets, a sprawling penthouse in Manhattan, and an empty, bitter heart. Twenty years ago, a devastating car accident had severed his spine, leaving him paralyzed from the waist down. He had resigned himself to a lifetime of immobility, surrounded by luxury but utterly alone.

The quiet of his penthouse was suddenly interrupted. Arthur turned his chair to see a young man standing near the entrance. Arthur laughed louder this time. He gestured to his luxurious surroundings.
