A Homeless Youth Healed My Paralyzed Legs, then Revealed a Heartbreaking Family Secret
Previously: When a bedraggled young man sneaked into billionaire Arthur’s penthouse, he promised a miracle. Nobody expected the paralyzed tycoon to stand—or the shocking family secret that would follow.
The Cost of a Miracle
Arthur stood trembling on his own two feet, his mind unable to process the physical reality of what was happening. He took a hesitant step forward, then another. The cold marble floor felt real beneath his soles. He looked down at the dirty young man who was now standing up, wiping his hands on his tattered sweatshirt.
"How... how did you do this?" Arthur stammered, his voice shaking with a mixture of awe and terror. "Who are you?"
"My name is Leo," the boy replied, his voice flat and devoid of joy. "And I need that million dollars tonight. In cash or a certified wire transfer. Now."
Arthur, still overwhelmed by the miracle, nodded quickly.
"Of course, whatever you want. But you must tell me what kind of technology or medicine this is! I can make you richer than you ever dreamed!"
"It’s not medicine, Arthur," Leo said, using the billionaire's first name. "It's a family gift. A gift that you turned your back on years ago."
Leo reached into his pocket and pulled out a crumpled, faded photograph, handing it to Arthur. Arthur’s eyes widened as he recognized the man in the photo. It was his estranged younger brother, Thomas. Fifteen years ago, Arthur had greedily cut Thomas out of the family business, leaving him to die in poverty. Standing next to Thomas in the photo was a young boy with Leo’s unmistakable eyes.
"Thomas was my father," Leo whispered, tears finally welling in his eyes. "He possessed the same healing gift. But he refused to use it on himself, saving his life force for me. He died in poverty because of your greed."
Arthur felt a heavy wave of guilt wash over him.
"Leo... I had no idea," Arthur whispered. "But why heal me? Why save the man who ruined your father?"
"Because my mother is dying of heart failure in a county hospital tonight," Leo choked out. "They won't perform the surgery without a million dollars upfront. I had to use my gift to heal you, so you would pay me. But you don't understand the law of the gift, Arthur. To heal a life, a life must be given."
”To heal a life, a life must be given."
