The bitter winter wind howled beneath the massive concrete highway overpass, carrying with it a relentless flurry of snow that blanketed the frozen city streets. In the shadows of the towering pillars, a fragile makeshift shelter constructed of a blue plastic tarp and discarded cardboard boxes offered little protection against the sub-zero temperatures. Inside, twenty-one-year-old Leo shivered violently, his breath blooming in thick white clouds. Yet, his primary concern was not his own freezing limbs, but the frail elderly woman wrapped tightly in his own heavy winter coat.

Martha, an eighty-year-old woman with delicate, paper-thin skin and wisps of gray hair escaping her knitted cap, looked up at the young man with watery, confused eyes. "Why would you give me your only coat, sweetheart?"

Spotting the blue tarp, Thomas sprinted forward and dropped to his knees in the dirty snow, placing a trembling hand on Martha's shoulder.

"Mom. Thank God, are you alright?"
