Previously: Standing frozen in the winter cold, nineteen-year-old Chloe thought she was completely alone. But when a mysterious biker group surrounded her, she realized her late father's promise was finally being kept.

A Promise Kept

Without looking back at the courthouse, Chloe climbed onto the back of Marcus’s motorcycle. She wrapped her arms tightly around his leather jacket as the engine roared to life, leaving her old life behind in a cloud of exhaust and winter mist. They rode for miles, leaving the city limits until they pulled up to a quiet, secluded diner on the edge of the highway.

Inside, over two steaming mugs of black coffee, the silence between them finally broke. Chloe stared at her trembling hands, still unable to believe she had actually run away. "Who are you?" she asked, her voice cracking. "And how did you know I would be there?"

Marcus reached into his heavy jacket and pulled out a worn, yellowed envelope. He slid it across the table. On the front, written in a shaky but familiar handwriting, was Chloe’s name. Tears welled in her eyes instantly. It was her late father's handwriting.

"Your dad and I served together in the Marines, and we rode together for years after,"

Marcus explained softly.

"Before he passed away five years ago, he knew your stepfather was a dangerous, greedy man. He knew he’d try to control you and take your inheritance the moment you turned eighteen. He made me swear a blood oath that if you ever reached out, or if things got too dangerous, I’d come get you."

Chloe opened the letter. Her father’s words confirmed everything. He had hidden a trust fund for her, one that her stepfather had been desperately trying to force her to sign over. Just that morning, her stepfather had threatened her, prompting her desperate flight to the municipal building to seek legal help, only to find the doors of bureaucracy shut in her face. But her father’s old friend had been watching over her all along.
