The Cafeteria Humiliation

The high school cafeteria was alive with the usual midday hum—chatter, clattering trays, and the bright, sterile glow of fluorescent lights. Ryan sat alone at a corner table, his fingers flying across his laptop keyboard. He wore his favorite beige hoodie, trying his best to blend into the background. For Ryan, surviving senior year was about staying invisible. But popularity had a way of hunting down the quiet ones.

Without warning, a shadow fell over his table. Before Ryan could look up, a freezing shock hit the crown of his head. Sticky, dark soda cascaded down his face, soaking into his hair and saturating the fabric of his hoodie. The laptop screen flickered and died as the liquid seeped into the keyboard.

A chorus of gasps and cruel snickers erupted from the nearby tables. Standing over him was Jake, the varsity team's star captain, wearing his pristine navy blue letterman jacket. Jake held the empty cup, a malicious smirk plastered across his face.

"What's the matter, boy? Cat got your tongue?"

Jake sneered, looking around for approval from his hovering teammates. Ryan didn't move. He sat frozen, the dark liquid dripping from the tip of his nose and the edges of his hood. But beneath the wet fabric, his eyes slowly opened. There was no fear in them, only a quiet, burning fury that seemed to lower the temperature of the room.

Slowly, Ryan closed the ruined laptop. He stood up, towering slightly over Jake, and wiped a stream of soda from his eyes. His voice was incredibly calm, cutting through the cafeteria's hushed silence like a knife.

"Are you done?"

Jake’s smirk faltered for a fraction of a second before he recovered his smug composure, shrugging his shoulders.

"Good,"

Jake replied, thinking he had won. But as Ryan locked eyes with him, the silence in the room became absolute. Ryan took a slow step forward.

"Now it's my turn."

Ryan took a slow step forward."Now it's my turn."
