I Confronted My Husband's Killer in a Biker Bar After Thirty Years of Lies
Previously: Sixty-six-year-old Martha walks into a notorious biker bar to confront her husband's killer, armed only with a vintage vest and a thirty-year-old secret.
The Legend of Jesse
The name Jesse was sacred among the Iron Titans, though it was shrouded in infamy. Thirty years ago, Jesse, the charismatic founder of the club, had vanished overnight. Along with him, the clubβs entire treasury had disappeared, leaving the members bankrupt and hunted by rival gangs. For decades, the story passed down to younger members like Roy was that Jesse had betrayed his brothers, fleeing to South America with their hard-earned money.
But looking at the vintage vest, Roy knew something was terribly wrong. The founder's vest was supposed to have been burned by the "traitor." Instead, this silver-haired woman stood before him, wearing it like armor.
"Jesse was my husband," Martha declared, her voice echoing in the dead silent bar. "And he never stole a single dime from this club."
Before Roy could process her words, the door to the back office slammed open. Marcus, the co-founder and elder statesman of the Titans, stepped into the light. His face turned pale as ashes the moment his eyes fell upon Martha.
"What is this nonsense?" Marcus hissed, his voice trembling with a mixture of rage and fear. "Roy, throw this crazy old woman out of here! Sheβs desecrating our history!"
But Roy didn't move. He looked from Marcus's panicked face back to Martha. The pieces of a thirty-year-old puzzle were beginning to fall into place. Roy had always found it strange how quickly Marcus had assumed control of the club after Jesse's disappearance, and how Marcus had suddenly become wealthy enough to buy the bar.
"Let her speak, Marcus," Roy growled, stepping between the elder and Martha. "If she has something to say about Jesse, I want to hear it."
Martha reached into the inner pocket of the vintage vest. She pulled out a small, weathered leather journal, its pages yellowed with age and stained with what looked like dried blood.
