I Smashed My Employer's Coffin at Her Funeral and Discovered a Terrifying Secret
The Smashed Coffin
The air inside the brightly lit memorial hall was thick with the scent of lilies and unspoken dread. White walls stretched high, casting a sterile glow over the grief-stricken mourners clad in black. On dark wooden tressels in the center of the room sat the pristine white wooden coffin of twenty-four-year-old Emma Vance. But the solemn silence was shattered by a deafening crash as Mia, the young housemaid, swung a heavy fire axe directly into the lid.
Mia stood trembling, her pale green uniform and white cotton apron stained with dust and wood splinters. Her strawberry-blonde hair fell wildly around her face as she gripped the axe handle with white-knuckled desperation. The shocked crowd gasped, drawing back in horror.
"Stop the funeral, she's not dead!" Mia screamed, her voice cracking with raw emotion.
Arthur Vance, Emma's sixty-four-year-old uncle, stepped forward, his slicked-back grey hair catching the light. His three-piece black suit was immaculate, but his face was twisted in fury.
"Have you lost your mind?!" Arthur yelled back, his voice booming through the hall.
Tears streamed down Mia’s face as she shook her head vehemently.
"I heard her! I heard her crying!"she pleaded, pointing her trembling hand at the splintered wood.
A heavy, suffocating silence fell over the room. Everyone held their breath, staring at the shattered hole in the coffin lid. Then, a faint, muffled female voice whispered from within the dark void:
"No... don't do this to me..."
Mia gasped, her eyes widening.
"I washed her hair this morning, her hands were warm!"she insisted, looking around the room for anyone to believe her.
Arthur’s confident facade cracked. He looked around in sudden, sweating panic, his eyes darty frantically.
"Did you hear that?"he stammered, trying to mask his terror.
Eleanor, Emma’s elegant sixty-nine-year-old grandmother, stepped forward. Her dark charcoal dress rustled as she gently touched the splintered wood of the coffin, her eyes filling with tears.
"My God... Emma?"she gasped.
”Emma?" she gasped.
