The diner fell deathly silent. The hum of the neon sign seemed to fade under the weight of Arthur's furious outburst. Sarah stood up slowly, her face burning with embarrassment and confusion. She had done nothing but show a little girl kindness, yet her manager was treating her like a criminal. Mark, still processing the shock of hearing his daughter speak, quickly turned his attention to the angry manager. His shock turned to cold, hard defense.

"What is wrong with you?"

Mark demanded, stepping between Arthur and the trembling waitress.

"She was helping my daughter. Lily hasn't spoken a single word since her accident three years ago. This woman just performed a miracle, and you are firing her?"

Arthur scoffed, adjusting his striped tie with a sneer.

"I don't pay my staff to socialize with charity cases. She's wasting company time, and I run a business, not a rehabilitation center. Out! Both of you!"

Arthur yelled, completely oblivious to the storm he was brewing.

Mark’s eyes narrowed. He took a slow, deep breath, his demeanor shifting from defensive father to a powerful figure of authority. He reached into his breast pocket and pulled out a sleek leather wallet, extracting a gold-embossed business card. He slid it onto the table, right under Arthur’s nose.

"You think you run this place, Arthur?"

Mark said, his voice dangerously calm.

"I am Mark Sterling, CEO of Sterling Development. I’ve been scouting this block for our new community project. In fact, I was in negotiations to purchase this entire property yesterday."

Arthur’s face drained of color as he looked at the card. Mark continued,

"Your attitude just made my decision very easy. Not only will I buy this building, but I will make sure you never manage so much as a lemonade stand in this city again."
