Previously: A corrupt lawyer tries to steal a billionaire's fortune with a forged paternity test. But a 7-year-old boy holds the key to the truth — and it changes everything.

Preston tried to run, but the truth had already locked the doors.

He stumbled backward, his polished shoes skidding on the marble. "Julian, you're making a mistake. That document is forged. The Hargraves set me up."

"Five million dollars in your account says otherwise," I said, holding up the receipt. "And the forensic seal on this certificate? That's not something you can fake."

Lucas was still in my arms, his face buried in my chest. I could feel his heart racing, but he was quiet. Brave.

Preston's eyes darted toward the exit, but the doors were already blocked. Two uniformed officers stepped forward, their hands resting on their belts.

"You're under arrest for fraud and attempted theft," one of them said, pulling out handcuffs.

But Preston wasn't done. He laughed, a brittle, desperate sound. "You think this is over? I have copies of everything. I have leverage. You haven't seen the last of me."

He leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper meant only for me. "I know about the offshore accounts, Julian. I know about the deals you made to build this empire. And I know about your wife's death."

My blood turned to ice. "What did you say?"

Preston smiled, a thin, cruel line. "You think it was an accident? The car crash that killed Elena? I've been saving that little piece of information for a rainy day."

The officers grabbed his arms, but he kept talking, his voice rising. "I'll tell the world the truth, Julian. I'll ruin you. I'll take everything you love."

I felt Lucas tense against me. He looked up, his small face pale. "Dad? What is he talking about?"

I didn't answer. I couldn't. Because in that moment, the world tilted, and I saw everything I thought I knew crumbling around me.

Preston was dragged out, still shouting threats, but his words hung in the air like smoke. The officers closed the doors, and the atrium fell silent.

Lucas touched my cheek with his small hand. "Dad, is it true? Did someone hurt Mom?"

I knelt down, holding his face in my hands. "I don't know, buddy. But I'm going to find out."

I pulled out my phone and called my private investigator, a man I trusted with my life. "I need you to dig into the car accident that killed my wife. I need everything — police reports, insurance claims, witness statements. And I need it yesterday."

The investigator's voice was grim. "Julian, I've been waiting for this call. There are things about that case that never added up. I'll have a full report by morning."

I hung up and looked at my son. "We're going to get through this together. I promise you that."

Lucas nodded, his eyes still wet. "I trust you, Dad."

But as the hours crept by, the truth began to surface. Elena's car had been tampered with — the brake lines cut, cleanly, professionally. And the only person with the access and the motive was the man I had just watched get arrested.

Preston Vane had not only tried to steal my son. He had taken my wife.

And I was going to make him pay.
