Previously: When a weeping six-year-old girl interrupted Esteban's wedding holding a faded photograph, he never expected it would lead him straight to the dying love of his life.

The Secrets of the Past

Esteban fell to his knees by the sterile hospital bed, taking Sarah’s cold, frail hand in his. Tears blurred his vision as he looked at the woman he had never stopped loving. Lily quietly slipped into the room, climbing onto the edge of the bed to hold her mother's other hand. The contrast between Esteban’s pristine wedding attire and the grim reality of the intensive care unit was stark.

"Why did you leave me, Sarah?" Esteban choked out, his voice thick with years of unresolved pain. "Why didn't you tell me we had a daughter?"

Sarah closed her eyes, a tear escaping down her pale cheek. She explained that seven years ago, she had discovered she was pregnant. But before she could tell Esteban, his wealthy mother and his then-girlfriend, Vanessa, had cornered her. They threatened to ruin Sarah's family and ensure Esteban was disinherited if she didn't disappear. Vanessa had even faked medical documents to convince Sarah that Esteban was already married to someone else.

"I wanted you to have your dream career, Esteban," Sarah whispered. "They told me I would only drag you down. I didn't know Vanessa would end up back in your life."

Before Esteban could process the sheer cruelty of the woman he had almost married, the hospital room door slammed open. Vanessa stood there, her wedding dress slightly torn, her face contorted in a mixture of rage and panic. She had followed him to the hospital, determined to drag him back to the altar.

"Esteban, this is a pathetic sob story!" Vanessa shrieked, pointing an angry finger at Sarah. "She’s using this brat to steal you away from me! We have a wedding to finish!"

Esteban stood up, his posture rigid with a cold, furious anger. For years, he had lived under the manipulation of his family and Vanessa, believing Sarah had simply abandoned him. Now, the horrific truth was laid bare. Looking at Vanessa’s spiteful face, he realized he had almost married a monster.
