Previously: When eight-year-old Lily interrupted Esteban's wedding holding a crumpled photograph, she wasn't looking for money. She was looking for the only man who could save her dying mother.

A Second Chance at Love

"What is the meaning of this, Esteban?" Vanessa demanded, her voice shrill and devoid of the sweetness she usually faked. "You left me at the altar for this... this charity case? We have hundreds of guests waiting!"

Esteban stood up slowly, towering over his bride-to-be. The love he once thought he felt for her had completely withered, replaced by cold disgust. "I know what you did, Vanessa," he said, his voice deadly calm. "I know you threatened Sarah and forced her to run away with my daughter. The wedding is off. Get out of my sight, and if you ever come near my family again, I will make sure the police hear everything."

Vanessa’s face went pale. Realizing her lies had finally caught up with her, she sneered, turned on her heel, and stormed out of the hospital, her expensive wedding gown rustling loudly in the quiet corridor.

Turning back to Sarah, Esteban knelt down again. He looked at the medical monitors and the chart at the foot of her bed. As a successful cardiologist, he immediately recognized her condition. It was a severe but treatable heart valve defect. She didn't need to go to heaven; she just needed the surgery that her poverty had kept out of reach.

"I'm going to save you, Sarah," Esteban promised, kissing her forehead. "And I am never letting you or our daughter go again."

Over the next few weeks, Esteban pulled every favor and used his own resources to secure the best medical team for Sarah. The surgery was a resounding success. Slowly but surely, the color returned to Sarah's cheeks, and her strength returned.

A year later, the sun shone once again on a beautiful outdoor aisle. This time, there was no interruption. Lily, wearing a beautiful white dress, walked down the aisle tossing flower petals, a radiant smile on her face. Behind her walked Sarah, healthy and beautiful, ready to finally say the vows that had been delayed for eight long years. Sometimes, the universe ruins our plans just to save our lives and guide us back to where we truly belong.
