For several agonizing seconds, the room was silent except for Brenda's ragged breathing. Karen dropped her mop, her hands shaking as the adrenaline began to fade. She knelt beside Brenda, wrapping her arms around the trembling woman. "Are you alright, ma'am? We need to call the police right now," Karen whispered urgently.
