Marcus scoffed, crossing his arms over his chest. He didn't care about the man's title. To him, Dr. Carter was just another customer, and Toby was just replaceable kitchen staff.

"I don't care who you are, doctor," Marcus sneered. "This is my establishment, and I run it my way. The kid violated policy. Now, both of you get out of my diner."

The diner grew dead silent. Customers at nearby tables stopped chewing, their eyes darting between the arrogant manager and the distressed teenager. Toby felt smaller than ever, wishing the floor would swallow him whole. He began to strip off his black gloves, preparing to walk out into the cold afternoon, jobless and defeated.

But Dr. Michael Carter wasn't finished. He finished speaking into his phone, slid it into his dark green jacket, and looked Marcus dead in the eye with a calm, chilling smile.

"You think you own this place, Marcus?" Arthur asked, his voice echoing in the quiet diner. "But you don't. You lease this building. And the commercial real estate firm that owns this entire plaza? It belongs to my family's medical trust."

Marcus’s smug expression began to falter. A bead of sweat formed on his bald head.

"I just spoke directly to the president of our property management division," Dr. Carter continued, stepping closer. "I informed them that a tenant is harboring a manager who presents a severe liability to public safety and human life. We are invoking the immediate moral turpitude clause in your lease."

The color drained completely from Marcus’s face. He opened his mouth to speak, but no words came out. The tables had turned in an instant. The man who thought he held all the power was suddenly staring at the destruction of his own business.
