Previously: Vanessa thought she had the Cavalli fortune locked in with a forged DNA report. She didn't count on my 7-year-old son pulling out the one piece of paper that destroyed her — and proved everything.

The USB Drive She Left Behind Was the Key to a Deeper Betrayal

The boardroom fell silent after the officers took Vanessa away. I held Lucas close, feeling his small body shake against mine. "You're okay, son," I whispered. "You're safe now."

But my own heart was pounding. Vanessa's last words echoed in my head: "You'll never see the real truth!"

I looked at the table where she had stood, and there, half-hidden under a pile of papers, was a black USB drive. She must have dropped it in her rush to leave.

I picked it up, the plastic cold in my palm. Lucas looked at it, his eyes wide. "Dad, what's on it?"

"I don't know, buddy," I said. "But I'm going to find out."

I plugged the drive into my laptop, and the screen flickered to life. Inside was a folder labeled "Insurance." I clicked it, and a video began to play.

It was a recording from a security camera in Vanessa's apartment. She was on the phone, her voice low and vicious. "I don't care what it takes. Get me that DNA report. I need to discredit the boy before the board meeting."

My blood ran cold. This wasn't just about me and Lucas. This was about the company. The Cavalli Automotive dynasty. Vanessa was trying to take it all.

I kept watching. The video showed her meeting with a man in a dark suit, handing him a thick envelope. "Here's the first half," she said. "You'll get the rest when the boy is out of the picture."

The man nodded and said, "Done. But remember, you owe me. And I always collect."

I paused the video and turned to Lucas. "Son, do you know who that man is?"

Lucas shook his head, but then he said, "He was in the office the other day. He talked to Vanessa a lot. She called him 'Uncle.'"

Uncle. My brother-in-law. The one person I thought I could trust besides Lucas's mother.

I felt a surge of rage, but I kept it in check. "We're going to need a plan," I said. "Vanessa thinks she's won, but she doesn't know I have this."

Over the next hour, I called my lawyer, my security chief, and my private investigator. I told them everything. The DNA report, the bribe receipt, the video.

"There's more," my investigator said. "I've been tracking Vanessa for weeks. She's been meeting with a man named Victor Ralston, a corporate raider who specializes in hostile takeovers. They're planning to buy out your shares through a shell company."

My jaw clenched. "And my brother-in-law?"

"He's in on it. He's been feeding them inside information about the company's finances."

I looked at Lucas, who was watching me with a serious expression. "What are we going to do, Dad?"

I put my hand on his shoulder. "We're going to win, son. But we have to be smart. Vanessa thinks she's in control, but she's about to find out that she's been playing chess with a grandmaster."

The next morning, I called a board meeting. Vanessa walked in with a triumphant smile, her lawyer in tow. She was wearing a navy power suit, as if she already owned the place.

"Roman," she said, her voice dripping with false sweetness. "I'm surprised you have the nerve to show your face. After the DNA results, you're a laughingstock."

I didn't stand. I just looked at her. "I have something you might want to see."

I pressed a button on my phone, and the boardroom screen lit up with the security footage from her apartment. The room went dead silent. Vanessa's face turned white.

"That's not me," she stammered. "That's a fake."

"Is it?" I said. "Then explain the bank receipt in your name. And the lab clerk who's already confessed."

Vanessa's lawyer leaned over and whispered something in her ear. She shook her head violently. "This is a setup! He's framing me!"

But the board members were already murmuring, their eyes on the screen. I let the video play for another ten seconds, showing her handing the envelope to the man.

"You see," I said, "I have evidence of your bribery, your fraud, and your conspiracy to steal my company. And I have witnesses who will testify."

Vanessa's composure cracked. "You think you've won?" she hissed. "You don't know a thing about me, Roman. You don't know what I'm capable of."

"I know exactly what you're capable of," I said. "That's why I have a backup. My lawyer has a second will, signed and notarized, that leaves everything to Lucas. And there's a video of you paying off the clerk. So go ahead, make your threats. They mean nothing."

Vanessa stood frozen, her fists clenched. Then she turned and walked out, her heels echoing in the silent room.

But I knew this wasn't the end. She had one more card to play, and I had to be ready.
