Previously: A brutal encounter in an airport lounge turns deadly when a mob boss intervenes, not with a threat, but with an offer that will change a waitress's life forever.

The atmosphere in the lounge shifted from tense to terrifying in an instant. Mr. Wright, who moments before had been a picture of calm authority, moved with explosive speed. He closed the distance between himself and Carter in two thunderous strides. Before Carter could utter another word, Mr. Wright’s gloved hand clamped around his throat like an iron vise. Carter’s feet left the ground as he was lifted onto his tiptoes, his jugular veins bulging, his face contorting in a silent scream.

“Boss… please… it was just a mistake—!” Carter choked out, his voice a strangled wheeze. Mr. Wright’s knuckles were white, his jaw locked in ruthless fury. His eyes, those piercing steel-blue orbs, seemed to bore into Carter’s very soul. I watched, wide-eyed, pressing my hand over my trembling mouth, utterly disbelieving the scene unfolding before me.

With a guttural roar, Mr. Wright slammed Carter down onto the obsidian marble cocktail table. The heavy stone cracked down the center with a deafening boom, sending bottles and ice flying. Carter’s body convulsed, the breath violently expelled from his lungs. He lay there, gasping silently, his eyes rolled back, utterly defeated. Mr. Wright stood over him, his voice a dark, reverberating death-whisper, “One more word, and you leave this airport in a luggage crate.”

Then, the unthinkable happened. Mr. Wright calmly retrieved a monogrammed handkerchief from his breast pocket. He knelt gracefully beside me, the rain and pulsing runway lights illuminating his weathered, aristocratic profile. He offered me the handkerchief. “Wipe your lip, Samuel,” he said, his voice now profound and velvet warm. “Starting tonight, this treacherous dog works for you.” I took the handkerchief with trembling fingers, a single tear cutting a crimson path through the blood on my cheek. Carter, pinned beneath Mr. Wright’s polished shoe, groaned mutely in ruined, humiliating defeat.
