The Interrupted Vows

The soft glow of candlelight flickered against the ancient stone walls of the church, casting long, dramatic shadows. Nathan adjusted his bow tie, his heart hammering against his ribs. Standing opposite him was Amelia, his beautiful bride. Draped in a vintage lace gown that belonged to her grandmother, she looked ethereal. Yet, as she clutched her bouquet of white calla lilies, Nathan noticed her hands were trembling violently. Tears welled in her eyes, spilling over her flushed cheeks.

Nathan assumed it was just overwhelmed emotion. He loved Amelia with every fiber of his being. She was a gentle, quiet soul who worked at a local community center, a stark contrast to Nathan’s high-stress corporate life. For the past two years, Nathan had climbed the ranks at a prestigious real estate development firm, working eighty-hour weeks to prove himself to his ruthless, billionaire boss, Robert Vance.

Just as the priest cleared his throat to begin the vows, a sudden draft swept through the sanctuary. The heavy, double-wooden doors at the back of the church groaned as they were pushed open. Nathan turned, irritated by the interruption, but the breath caught in his throat. Walking down the aisle with an air of absolute authority was Robert Vance himself, wearing a tailored dark blue suit.

"Sorry I'm late, daughter, I was in an important meeting," Robert announced, his deep voice echoing off the vaulted ceilings.

Nathan’s eyes widened in sheer disbelief. He looked at Robert, then at Amelia, whose face had gone completely pale. The world seemed to tilt on its axis. He felt a cold sweat break out on the back of his neck as the realization crashed over him.

"Boss?" Nathan stammered, his voice cracking under the weight of his confusion. "You... you're her father?"
