My Boyfriend Forced Me to Lie to Police, But an Officer Saved Me
Previously: When Chloe tried to report her abusive boyfriend to the police, he suddenly appeared and forced her to lie. But a sharp-eyed officer noticed her terror and set a clever trap.
A Trap of Justice
A spark of hope ignited in Chloe's chest, but it was quickly dampened by a sudden movement. Mason's eyes darted toward her, catching the slight shift in her posture. His gaze dropped to her hands, and then to her handbag sitting on her lap.
"What are you doing?" Mason demanded, his voice dangerously low. "What's in your hands, Chloe?"
Before she could react, Mason snatched her handbag, ripping it from her grasp. He tore it open, searching through her belongings. He didn't find the note, but his paranoid eyes caught a small, black plastic disc sewn hastily into the inner seam—the GPS tracker. With a roar of anger, Mason rolled down his window and threw the entire handbag out into the dark, rainy night.
"You think you're clever?" Mason sneered, stepping on the gas. "Now they have no way of tracking us. You're coming with me, and we're leaving the state tonight."
Chloe felt a wave of absolute despair wash over her. The tracker was gone. They were truly alone. But just as Mason laughed in triumph, the dark highway ahead suddenly illuminated with a blinding flash of red and blue lights. Three police cruisers blocked the road, their sirens wailing through the night. Behind them, two more police cars pulled up, boxing Mason's vehicle in completely.
Mason slammed on the brakes, his tires screeching as the car spun to a halt. Within seconds, armed officers surrounded the vehicle, shouting for Mason to put his hands up. The door was ripped open, and Mason was dragged out into the wet asphalt, his wrists cuffed tightly behind his back.
The officer from the precinct, Officer Davis, walked up to the passenger side and opened the door for Chloe. He wrapped a warm blanket around her trembling shoulders.
"Are you okay?" Officer Davis asked gently. "I knew he'd throw the bag if he found the tracker. That's why I put a secondary beacon in your coat pocket when I brushed past you. We never lost sight of you."
Tears of pure relief streamed down Chloe's face as she watched Mason being pushed into the back of a police cruiser. For the first time in years, she could finally breathe, knowing that her prison had crumbled and her freedom had finally begun.
