David knew he had only seconds to act. He squeezed Chloe's hand, whispering for her to stay calm. As the stranger approached, David stepped in front of his daughter, shielding her from view. The man stopped a few feet away, his cold eyes scanning the SUV.

"Evening," the stranger said, his voice flat. "I'm looking for a little boy who wandered off from the carnival. Have you seen him?"

David forced a tired, frustrated smile, playing the part of an exhausted parent perfectly.

"No, sorry," David replied smoothly. "My daughter here had a meltdown because she dropped her cotton candy, so we're just packing up to head home. Good luck finding him, though."

The man stared at David, his eyes lingering on the closed trunk. For a tense, silent moment, nobody moved. Finally, the man nodded curtly and turned away, continuing his search down the next row of cars. David didn't waste a second. He ushered Chloe into the passenger seat, climbed behind the wheel, and started the engine. They drove out of the fairgrounds, blending into the evening traffic.

Once they were safe at home, David carried a sleeping Leo inside. As he laid the boy down, he noticed a small zipper on the back of the blue teddy bear. Inside was an encrypted flash drive and a safe deposit key. A video on the drive from Elena revealed she had gathered enough evidence to put the criminal syndicate away for good, but she needed David to deliver it to the federal authorities. David realized that his wife's sacrifice was finally nearing its end. With the evidence in hand, he vowed to bring Elena home, ready to fight for the complete family they had been denied for five long years.
